London – its population is about 10
million people. It is situated on the river Thames. There are many places of
interest. We can see them by walking, or by means of transport, for
examle by famous red double-deckers or by the Underground. It is the oldest U.
in the world. (U. is also in Glasgow and Newcastle). There are also 3 airports
in London – the most important is Heathrow.

Clock-tower with Big Ben (it
got its name after one fat Member of Parliament called Benjamin).
Downing Street 10 it
is the official home of British Prime Minister since 1731
Westminster Abbey Britain´s
Kings and Queens are crowned there
St. Paul´s Cathedral it
is known for Whispering Gallery (you can hear what is whispered on the opposite
side 107 feet far from you)
The Tower first
royal palace, then prison, it is museum now.
Tower Bridge it
can open in the middle and let large ships go through
Trafalgar Square there
is a statue of Admiral Nelson, he won the Battle of Trafalgar over Napoleon. It
is a popular place for meetings and demonstrations
The British Museum it
is the largest museum in the world
Buckingham Palace it
is the Queen´s residence in London
Picadilly Circus, Regent are
the most famous shopping centres.

parks, the largest is Hyde Park, it is also known for its Speaker´s
corner where anybody can have speach.
Greenwich it
is the seat of the National Maritime Museum, there is the Royal Observatory – here
is a brass strip which marks prime meridian.
